About Me

Elizabeth SmithI am a senior learning and development consultant with over 20 years’ experience in human resources, training and organisational development, and used to working at all levels within organisations. During my career I have held roles of increasing seniority in a variety of organisations, including GlaxoSmithKline, Napp Pharmaceuticals, the NHS and Harvard University. I have also spent time living and working in Germany and the USA.

My experience includes managing and delivering a wide range of learning and development projects, and designing and facilitating group and team events - large and small - using a variety of approaches and techniques. I have had responsibility for running an HRD function, and formulating and leading cross-company training and development strategy, including management and leadership development. For a number of years I also worked as an HR generalist, handling recruitment, employee relations, performance management and policy development.

In my work I combine my in-depth expertise with the ability to really understand and 'get under the skin' of people and situations - and then come up with sound and realistic approaches. My style is collegiate, inclusive and also pragmatic - enabling people to learn and work together effectively in order to meet their developmental and organisational objectives.

My first degree is in Natural Sciences (Psychology) from Cambridge, and I hold a Masters in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management from the London School of Economics. I am also a Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, and a qualified MBTI practitioner.

The focus of my business as an independent consultant is enabling individuals, teams and organisations to achieve more through learning and development. I do this by providing three distinct, but overlapping services - consulting, training and facilitation - depending on what is needed.  These are described in more detail under Services.
